Is a corticosteroid like other sorts of steroids?
The word steroid describes the chemical “shape” of a wide variety of medicines and chemicals. They have many different actions and uses. Corticosteroids counter inflammation in the body and are all based on the body’s own anti-inflammation substance - cortisol. Corticosteroids are completely different in their action from anabolic steroids and sex hormones.

Aren’t corticosteroids very powerful drugs?
Some corticosteroids, especially when given by mouth or by injection, are among the most powerful tools doctors have in combating a wide variety of conditions. However, there is a vast difference in the doses used in nasal sprays and corticosteroid tablets. Because the dose in Beconase Hayfever Relief For Adults is applied only where it is needed, only an extremely small amount of active medicine is required. The safety of the ingredients in Beconase Hayfever Relief For Adults has been shown over several decades of use as a prescription medicine in millions of patients. It is this safety record that has allowed it to be made available over-the-counter in chemists and supermarkets.
