Home > Understanding your allergy

Allergy is an exaggerated or inappropriate response by the immune system to contact with a substance from outside the body, that in most people is harmless.

The response could be the result of the skin coming into contact with a particular perfume or metal or might be triggered by a medicine or by eating a particular food. There are many types of allergies affecting different parts of the body.

For many people, the exaggerated response we know as an allergy affects their nose and eyes. What triggers this allergic response? Often it is nothing more than a few grains of pollen or a scattering of house dust in the air. So small, you might need a microscope to see them; and usually so harmless that most people are unaware of their presence.

Yet to a growing percentage of the population, these tiny flecks floating unnoticed in the air are allergy triggers or allergens and the people who respond to them are suffering from an airborne allergy.

This site focuses on diagnosing, treating and coping
with airborne allergy.
